Here's the story. I had the BAH Box running well, but was unhappy with
the CPU temperature. The system is an Asus A7V, with a Socket-A ThermalTake
Golden Orb on top of a Duron 650, running at 800MHz.
So, I attempt to remove the Orb. BIG MISTAKE. I should have
left well enough alone. I end up breaking the retention tab off of the
socket. I'm left holding a new FOP32, which I can't mount.
How tight was the Orb on you ask? Look at this:
If you look closely, you can see the characters AMD Duron imprinted on
the bottom. OUCH!
The solution? The lowly paper clip! I bent a plastic-coated paper clip so that it would go under the other two retention tabs, and over the FOP32's retention clip. (Sorry, these picture are lame, but they get the point across)
And now I'm running 5 degrees centigrade cooler!
