"Old Blue" This guitar is a Charvel Model 2 with a Jackson C-90 pickup and Jackson Tremelo. I acquired this guitar in late 1989 from Reliable Music in Charlotte, North Carolina. I traded a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard that I had outfitted with a Kahler tremelo unit for the Charvel. Although the Les Paul was probably a more expensive instrument than the Charvel, I prefer this guitar to most Les Pauls Ive played. The neck is wide like a Les Pauls but doesnt feel as thick from the nut to the heel. The pickup on this guitar has a little more low end and highs than a Gibson PAF pickup. The guitars tremelo system is similar to the Floyd Rose tremelo with the exception of the tuners being located on the back of the unit and not on top where your palm could knock them out of tune. Even though this is a Strat style body, this guitar does weigh quite a bit more than the average Strat styles on the market. Overall this is the best hard rock and metal guitar Ive played. |

"Speckled
Bird" This guitar is a Gibson Firebrand Deluxe. It has gold hardware and was repainted by a former member in my band. The paint job is unique because it looks "speckled" kind of like the inside of an oven. At one time this guitar had "scalloped" frets from the twelfth fret upward. Since buying it nearly two years ago it has had a fret job and Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck pickups installed in it. I recently started using this guitar again in my band "Violets Of Dawn" and boy! What difference a couple of years and a power trio will do for your attitude! I had been using this axe as a backup but I've move it into the spotlight because of its nearly endless sustain and its silky smooth tone. It also sounds too cool in the power trio I have. Similar in fact to the sound Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top gets from "Pearly Gates" his prized Les Paul Standard. |

"Fuzzy" This guitar is a Carvin Kit Guitar that I purchased and built about 8/98. After playing a few Carvin guitars over the years I decided to build one of the kits that they have made available to the public. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the materials used. I chose the kit with optional black hardware, Sperzal locking tuners, Wilkenson tremelo, and optional humbucking pickup and two single coils. The fit of all the pieces was great and like their ad says, only fine sanding is needed to finish the guitar to what you see here. Although Ive still got a little "tweaking" to do on this guitar, I do like the playability of the neck (ebony fingerboard) and tonal qualities of the humbucker and single coils. I highly recommend anyone that wants to try their hand at electric guitar kits give this company a try! You wont be dissatisfied. |
