- Welcome to Charlotte
- Where you can find the world's greatest concentration of Charlotteans.
- Charlotte Hornets
- The team's performance this year has disappointed both fans.
- The Complete PantherPage
- Everything you ever wanted to know about the NFL's Carolina Panthers. This site is so comprehensive you'd be advised to bring your lunch. Created by my son, Brendan. Way to go, Bren!

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
- Listen for the patter of little web feet.
Media & Politics
Print
- The Charlotte Observer
- Is it just me, or is The Charlotte Observer a great newspaper? Right-wingers put it down, but then they hate any media outlet that doesn't espouse their views.
- The Washington Post
- Best of the best. Alas, makes right wingers lose sleep. My favorites are columns by Howard Kurtz and David Broder.
- USA Today
- A fairly comprehensive site; good sports coverage.
- Mollie Ivins
- When it's revealed that the emperor wears no clothes, you'll read it first in Molly's column.
- The Los Angeles Times
- Great reporters: Ron Brownstein, Doyle McManus, Robin Wright and more.
- The Chicago Tribune
- Said by some to be the best newspaper site on the web.
- The Washington Times
- The Moonie Rag. Gives new meaning to the word distortion. If they don't have any new dirt on the Clintons, they recycle old stuff with pathetic flashback ruses ("Three Years Ago: Hillary accused of burning Old Chicago")
- The New York Times
- The Good Gray Lady has recently put on some makeup. The very idea, using color photos on the front page! Wonder if web techniques had some influence on that decision.
Networks
- ABC News
- Design and content make this an appealing source for information.
- The News Hour with Jim Lehrer
- "And now with three different perspectives on the issue..." Here you can find transcripts of all those dreadfully dull interviews.
- CNN
- On top of it, headline-wise.
- MSNBC
- The online adjunct of Microsoft-NBC's cable news network. More dead horses are beaten here than on any other network. When news is slow, they'll rack up the "Time After Time" JonBenet Ramsey hour. Sure miss Keith Olberman, who got tired of the crap and went back to sports.
Other

- Political stories from CNN and Time Magazine.
- Slate
- Microsoft's E-zine of opinion and commentary, edited by Michael Kinsley. Once again, the content is free.

- Page Turner
- Paperback heaven. Hot lists of best sellers in mystery, suspense, romance, true crime and other categories.
- C-SPAN
- Nothing like the real thing, but if you missed any Book Notes program in the past six months or so, you can hear a few moments of the interview, read the first chapter of the featured, and order any title from previous shows.
- The Elements of Style
- If you write anything more important than a grocery list, use this online version of Strunk's classic to check your grammer. Don't use no double negatives nor nothing!
Miscellaneous
- Warner Bros.
- The usual hype for their movies and whatever, but what really held my interest was the short course in cartoon-making called "Animation 101."
