I started playing piano in college, and started composing now and then in law school. Recently, I purchased Voyetra's MusicWrite™ Maestro software so I could create sheet music of my songs. Here's the first, named after my wife's nickname, and composed during 1984.

If you compose your own music, here are two books that will help you learn proper music notation (although software takes care of a lot of the details automatically):

"Music Notation" by Gardner Read. This is excellent and comprehensive.

"Norton Manual of Music Notation" by George Heussenstam. This book helps you put music to paper.

Jethro Tull - Great rock band. Who can forget Aqualung!

Billy Joel - Great piano rock music. Turnstiles is one of his best albums, with New York State of Mind and Angry Young Man.

Elton John - I started playing piano in college so I could play Elton John and Billy Joel songs. His earlier works are the best, although his latest, Songs from the West Coast is in the top 10.

Pink Floyd - Who needs drugs when you can listen to Pink Floyd? Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are the greatest.
