Re: An advertising suggestion

Dear Mr. Clark:

At the end of his song Last, Trent Reznor passionately pleads, “I want you
to make me. I want you to take me. I want you to break me. And I want
you to throw me away.” Among other things, he’s telling us that eventually
everything must end. It is just one of nature’s many unpleasant facts that
cannot be blamed on anyone, not even President Bush.

As a regular listener to WBT, I hear your commercials several times a day.
If I had to pick one dominant thought that crosses my mind whenever
one comes on, it would be this: Toyota hasn’t used Everyday People in… oh,
it must be at least ten years now. Before reading any further, please remain
seated there at your desk and think about that for about 30 minutes.

Now that you’ve thought it over, I know you’re saying to yourself, “That
does make a lot of sense. But what other song could possibly replace it?”
This is where my suggestion comes in.

In short, your new theme song should be Pink Floyd’s Run Like Hell, which
I could see becoming your new catch phrase. You could say something
like (just off the top of my head), “If you want a new or used Toyota at a
great price, the most value for your trade-in, and an astonishingly long
warranty period, then run like hell down to Independence Boulevard and
see me, Scott Clark.”

Thanks for listening and I look forward to the new ads.

Sincerely,

Miggy, the Thief
