My family are avid divers and we go snorkeling to one beach per day and spend 2-3 hours each in the morning before the snorkel boats arrive.  These reefs are thick with sea life, corals, and lush green underwater plants and fauna.  Not so surprising, when we are snorkeling at these beach reefs, later in the day we encounter all the boat operators herding their groups of 25-30 snorkelers like cattle, right to these very public beaches where you can park you car on the road side and dip in.  The only advantage of going with the snorkel boats is that thy drift with you depending on how strong the current is.  That certainly takes all the adventure and exploration FUN out of it for me.  If there is a strong current, stay closer to the shore, otherwise you may explore further out without tiring on the swim back.  Or swim against the current out and drift back in.  I prefer to swim at my own pace and stop often, find my own crevices to explore, rather than being rushed and herded like a school of fish in the water.  Ask us for specifics when you book your vacation rental.
