Those Magnificent
Cathedrals

We saw a number of unbelievable
cathedrals while in Germany, most notably the Dom in Cologne, Speyer and Worms. It
is impossible to describe the splendor and the sheer beauty of these structures that have
endured hundreds and hundreds of years and most notably, the bombs of World War II.
There is something sublime about
touring these sacred places that were once bombarded by America and our allies.

|
| The Dom in Koln (Cologne) is nothing
but breath taking, spectacular, a jaw dropping sight! This photo does not do justice
to this immense structure that has soared above the Koln horizon for hundreds and hundreds
of years. It even withstood the bombs of WWII while the rest of the city lay in
ruin. |

|
| The Speyer Cathedral is also known as
the Dom of Kings as German royalty was once crowned in this beautiful place. The
basement crypt holds a number of the kings who have long since passed on to their eternal
glory. |

|
| This photo was taken inside the Speyer
Cathedral. You are definitely rewarded for looking up. The stone work and
murals (added much later in the Speyer history) are nothing less than exquisite. |

|
| The Worms Cathedral sustained quite a
bit of damage in WWII, but has been lovingly restored. It is surrounded by more
modern structures that cannot hold a candle to this old beauty. |
